One of the best things about FIQI Tag is the battery: it's a standard CR2032 coin cell, easily replaceable, available at any drugstore or supermarket for under $2. No charging cables. No subscription to a charging service. Just swap and go.
Here's what to expect and how to do the swap when the time comes.
Expected battery life
Under normal use — a few find-it sounds per week, occasional Find My pings as the tag travels with you — a fresh CR2032 should last 10 to 14 months in a FIQI Tag.
Conditions that drain the battery faster:
- Frequent find-it sound activations (the 120 dB alarm is the biggest single draw)
- Very cold temperatures (below -10°C) reduce CR2032 capacity by 20-30%
- Constant Bluetooth advertising in dense networks (a slight effect)
Conditions that extend battery life:
- Room temperature storage
- Use the find-it sound sparingly — Find My location alone (silent) costs almost no battery
How to know when to replace
Find My will show a low-battery warning when the cell drops below ~15% remaining. On iPhone, you'll see a small battery icon next to the tag's name in the Items tab. On Android, Find Hub shows the same.
You typically have 2–4 weeks of remaining use after the low-battery warning appears. Replace at your convenience, but don't wait until the tag goes silent.
The replacement procedure
What you need
- 1 × fresh CR2032 coin cell (any brand: Duracell, Energizer, Panasonic, Sony — all interchangeable, $1-3)
- A coin (US quarter or 10p coin) or a small flathead screwdriver
- ~30 seconds
Steps
- Locate the slot on the back of your FIQI Tag. Look for a small notch on the rim of the back cover.
- Insert your coin into the slot and twist counter-clockwise about 90 degrees. The back cover will pop loose.
- Lift the back cover off and set it aside.
- Pry out the old CR2032 with your fingernail or a plastic tool. The cell pops out easily.
- Insert the new CR2032 with the + (positive) side facing up. Most cells have a + clearly marked on the visible (writing) side. The visible side faces away from the tag's main body when installed.
- Replace the back cover: align the notch and twist clockwise 90 degrees.
- You should hear a startup chime within a few seconds, confirming the new battery is making contact.
Reconnecting after a battery swap
In most cases, your FIQI Tag will automatically reconnect to your Find My / Find Hub account when the new battery is inserted — no re-pairing needed.
If the tag doesn't show up in Find My after 5 minutes:
- Confirm the CR2032 is installed + side up
- Open Find My → Items → tap your tag → tap "Play Sound"
- If still silent, the cell may be exhausted from sitting on a shelf — try a different fresh CR2032
What if I can't open the back cover?
The cover is designed to be snug to maintain the IP67 waterproof seal. If a coin doesn't work, try:
- A slightly larger coin (US quarter has the most leverage)
- A small flathead screwdriver wedged into the slot
- Grip the front of the tag firmly with one hand to prevent rotation

Why CR2032?
Of the dozen common coin cell sizes, CR2032 hits the sweet spot for tags like ours: enough capacity (220 mAh) to power a Bluetooth radio for a year, but small enough (20 mm diameter, 3.2 mm thick) to fit inside a 32-mm tracker disc. Same cell powers your car key fob, motherboard CMOS, and many fitness sensors — it's the most universally stocked coin cell on the planet.
